Interpretive Interview Analysis

Charlie Sheen says, “I’m not bipolar!”

This type of interview is known as an interpretive interview and that means that the interviewee is trying to justify what has happened and they are trying to tell you there opinion on the particular situation.

The interview starts off with the interviewer talking about him and saying what people think about his behavior rather than asking a straight on question and I think in this case it’s a good idea because that makes the talk more suggestive and its good because this will lead up to Charlie answering questions that haven’t been asked so its gets more out of him as he’s being candid without really realizing it.

The interview is on an American TV show but was shown on the news.

Quote
The interviewer says:
“Your anger seems erratic, what it this?” – This is the start off question and I think it’s a very interesting one; it works well within this interview because of the way the interviewee is acting.

“When was the last time you used?” – this is a really good question asked because of the fact that she doesn’t actually mention the words drugs so this means she’s being quite suggestive and wants him to say it instead of her saying it.

The interview style is very investigative because the interviewer is trying to figure out what is going on with him because of his very abnormal behavior.

As the interview goes along then the interviewer starts asking him questions and the questions are very upfront and direct and she seems being very demanding in terms of the way she is asking them and I think it is a good thing because of the way that he is giving his answers.

The communication skills between the two are quite good and I feel that the interviewer is being quite straight on now in terms of what she is saying.
I also feel they talk to each other quite well but on some circumstances I feel that the way they both talk comes across as a bit aggressive as the lady interviewing is very upfront and her voice is quite sharp which on some occasions seems quite condescending.

The purpose of the interview is to inform the audience about what happened in one part of Charlie’s life and whether he did or did not take drugs.
