Emotional Interview Analysis

Successful Bollywood actress Deepika, talks about the battle she went through to beat depression

This interview is an interview of a Bollywood actress who is telling us about her earlier years of when she was suffering from anxiety and depression.
This interview goes into her life as she tells us how she coped, how she felt and what she did about it.

This interview as a whole is a very emotional one especially for the audience who have been through this situation or who know of people going through depression. In this interview we have the actress herself, as well as her mother with her and the counselor who helped her and the doctor she went to see whilst she was in her depression phase.

The questions which the presenter asked the actress are very direct questions as they go really deep into her life and from the questions asked we really learn about the way she felt in that time.

The interview type is a very hard news structure as it’s a serious interview so therefore it had been handled well with the way the interviewer was asking questions as the tone she used was quite sympathetic and understanding but it was right because it didn’t seem at all patronising and I think this is really important because this then makes the actress feel comfortable talking to the interviewer as they don’t feel intimidated.

Quote from the interview: “I Felt Empty and Directionless'

The first question to start of the interview was asked by the interviewer was “why do you think it’s important to talk about depression” I think this is a great question as it will tell us as an audience why she thinks it’s important to speak about it and why she has spoken about it.  I think as well it’s a great question because of the fact that the actress can answer this in any way, which will then help the interviewer ask more questions from the responses she gets.

Another question at the beginning of the interview which was asked was and I thought was good was “when did the feeling start and what did you exactly feel?” this again is a good question because the actress will give us a long answer explaining this and it will tell us from the beginning properly what she feels and when it started so it’ll be structured well and quite easy to follow through and then from the answers the actress will give to the interviewer, the interviewer will be able to ask even more questions from the responses she gets from the actress.

The interview set out:
The way the interview was set out is relaxed, this was definitely good to do as it’s very important to make the actress feel comfortable and then from this she’ll be able to speak about the issue more expressively.

The way the interviewer (Barkhaa) is giving eye contact to the actress while she is speaking is really good because it shows she is listening. The fact that the interviewers hand is on her chin shows that she is really listening carefully to what she is saying and that she is interested in what the actress has say.

The way the interview was closed was the actress saying to the audience if you feel like this or know someone who is feeling this then please do speak up because help is what she needed and the fact she got it has helped her a lot so sometimes asking for help is all you need.
The doctor and the psychiatrist also told us the symptoms of depression and anxiety so they explained what happens as well as the feelings.

The aim of the interview:
"If I can impact one life in this entire process of speaking up and letting people know that it's something I have been through and something that I could deal with because I had a fantastic support system."

The interviewer who interviewed the actress was a very active listener and she listened very carefully and I think this was great because it shows you she is taking the interview very seriously.

This type of interview was on TV and it was on a news channel and overall it was an emotional interview as it allowed us audience to see the insight of her life and feelings.
